More Gov't vs. American Ingenuity

Just a few stories that caught my ConservativeVent eye:

INGENUITY
I just love American ingenuity and resourcefulness. Just hope these folks don’t become too successful for Mr. Obama’s liking:

SCUM
Even with tough economic times, its not too hard to see which businesses still make a killing:

GOV’T SCUM
You know that $13 / week raise you got to “stimulate” the econmy? Not so fast there Rockefeller!

“Republicans attempt to “Re-Brand” themselves.” The brand is definitely tarnished (maybe beyond repair), but it will be a hard sell since they abandoned common sense for the last 20 years. Here’s a thought for a slogan: “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”. Ever heard of it?!

Next up: Education! You can bet the “Change” will be not less, but more government intervention and control. After all, the great Obama knows best!

Obama Hood or Prince John?

AP news story:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090504/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_taxes

I have seen many comments on blogs referring to Pres. Obama as “Robin Hood” under the pretense that Robin Hood “took from the rich and gave to the poor”. As a 30-second sound bite, this sounds heroic, even romantic as our “hero” Obama Hood sweeps in to right the injustices imposed against the common man!

However, if you actually take more than 30 seconds to examine the Robin Hood story, you will find that Obama is more akin to the evil Prince John than Robin Hood. Let’s refresh shall we?:

As the story goes, Robin Hood came from an affluent family and followed his King Richard the Lionhearted to fight in the Third Crusade against Islamic control of the Holy Land. Upon his return to England, Robin discovered that the family estate had been taken over by the government who was now being run by King Richard’s evil brother John who had assumed the throne in Richard’s absense.

John’s thrist for power and control was accomplished by increasing taxes and using government forces to confiscate property on not only the wealthy, but the commoners as well. In Robin’s local, this was carried out by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham. Once Robin saw the injustice and tyranny that the government was imposing on the people of England, he took matters into his own hands and joined forces with the commoners who had sought refuged in the forest. They ambushed and outsmarted the local government forces by taking back the ill-gained taxes and giving them back to the people to build their homes, care for their property, and run their businesses. Robin Hood and his Merry Men became wildly popular with the people and continued their crusade for justice until King Richard’s return as rightful ruler of England.

Fast forward to today: Pres Obama (Prince John) and his sidekicks Geitner, Emanuel, Pelosi, and Reid (Sheriffs of Nottingham) are using the economic crisis (“Can’t let a good crisis go to waste”) to use the power of government and the fear of uncertainty to gain more and more government control by unprecedented spending, tax policy, and punishing businesses that don’t fit their liking. Therefore, Obama is not Robin Hood, but the evil intentioned Prince John. Question is, who is the Robin Hood who will lead the commoners (Tea Party?) out of the forest to take back what is rightfully theirs?

Now change the characters to Obama and Geitner in this classic scene from Mel Brooks' "Men in Tights".

The Wisdom of Thomas Jefferson

John Kennedy once said to an assembled group of scholars in the White House, "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

The quotes below could prove his point:

- When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe .

- The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

- It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

- I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

- My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

- No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.

- The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

- The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Very Interesting Quote: In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:

- "Banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. Doesn't this sound eerily familiar to what is happening in America today?

Have A Great Weekend!
